Glenn Yoshimi Suetsugu
72, passed away in his sleep on August 7, 2020 at his Kaneohe home. He was born on January 20, 1948 to Charles Toshiyuki Suetsugu and Violet Yoshiko Suetsugu. Glenn attended Iolani School and George Washington University. After graduation, he worked as a real estate appraiser for his father's company, Charles Suetsugu Realtor, SRA. Later, Glenn, also served as a former director of Hosoi Garden Mortuary Board of Directors and was a former trustee of Hosoi Life Plan Trust Fund.
For recreation, Glenn played with his buddies on the tennis courts near the Nuuanu YMCA. In 1994, he traveled with team members to Kona and competed in the USTA League 3.5 Level Division Adult Sectional Championships. As years went by, Glenn could be seen playing tennis, laughing, and talking story, at Waialae Country Club, with his lifelong friend, Neil Nakamura, who was like a brother to him. His other interests were technology, cars, especially sport cars, photography, bicycling, and creating projects using his many talents and carpentry skills learned from his dad. Glenn challenged himself with crossword puzzles and Sudoku. He relaxed with music, to name a few, by Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, John Denver, Beatles, Queen, Paul Mauriat, and Keali'i Reichel. He collected hats, and you might have seen him sporting his favorite Indiana Jones fedora. Glenn enjoyed wearing designer belts, too. Friends and strangers would see his flashy "S" one and immediately comment, "Superman." He would just smile and say, "Suetsugu."
Family meant the world to Glenn, and he was totally immersed in their lives. He could frequently be seen by his wife's side and spent much time helping Shirley in her Wilson Elementary School classroom. In cub scouts, Glenn participated in many events, such as camping, hiking, and Pinewood Derby, with his two sons, Brandon and Scott. He also volunteered to be den leader for Scott's Pack 201 group and was, later, actively involved in their Boy Scouts Troop 201. As his parents aged, Glenn became caregiver to both of them as well. In addition, his grandsons, Daniel and Dylan, who brought so much joy into his life, could count on him, with Shirley, to be at all their special school functions. We thank our most unique husband, father, and grandpa, with all our hearts, for always being there for us!
Glenn is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley, sons, Brandon Suetsugu and Dr. Scott Suetsugu (Wendy), and grandchildren, Daniel Suetsugu and Dylan Suetsugu. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Dr. Ralph Suetsugu. Private services were held. The family request no monetary gifts (koden).
