87, peacefully passed away in Aiea on January 7, 2020. She was born on February 15, 1932 and raised in Kunia. She worked for 30 years in the Department of Education as a teacher at Waianae Elementary. A Celebration of her life will be held on Monday, January 27, 2020 at Hosoi Mortuary at 6pm. Bernard Iwao Shiratori
80, of Honolulu. Bernard was a 1957 Farrington graduate, where he met his lifetime friends, The Esquires. They camped, fished, traveled and played poker and volleyball. He earned his Master's in Chemistry from UH Manoa. He worked at The Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and the State Department of Health. Bernard was a Sales Manager for H.K. Horita Realty and later joined Century 21 Homefinders of HI. Bernard's favorite pastimes were going to Vegas and diving for tako. He traveled the world with his wife Karen to Asia, the Amazon, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Africa and the mainland. He was a skilled harmonica player and joined the Hawaii Reed 21 Harmonica Band. Surrounded by his loved ones, Bernard passed on December 21, 2019. He is greatly missed by his wife Karen; daughter Lori (Derek) Ichimura; son Ryan; son Craig (Kathy); granddaughter Carli; brother Melvin (Nora); Step family: Kevin (Mari) Asano; Gary (Sayuri) Asano; Michelle (Jonathan) Liu and 9 step-grand- children. He was predeceased by his parents Roy and Fumiyo Shiratori and sister Jessie (Patrick) Murakami. Private services were held.

Roy Tomoyoshi Nakamura, 90, of Honolulu, passed away on January 4, 2020, at Arcadia Retirement Community. Born in Kealakekua, Kona, Hawaii, he was a veteran of the Korean War and the 100th Battalion Reserve Unit. He retired as AVP at First Hawaiian Bank, former instructor for the Hawaii Chapter, American Institute of Banking and Charter member of the East Manoa Lions Club. He is survived by son, Miles (Lynne) Nakamura; daughter, Lynne Aki-Steele; 5 grandchildren and sister, Florence Nakamura and brother, Richard (Ethel) Nakamura. Harold “Hal” Seisuke Nakasone
99, of Honolulu, passed away on November 24, 2019. Born in Wahiawa on May 23, 1920. He was employed by Schuman Carriage where he retired after 20+ years of service. Harold was a member of the 100th Infantry Battalion in North Africa and Italy and then the 442nd Regimental Combat Team until the end of the war. First sergeant Nakasone served honorably in the Rome-Arno; North Apennines; Rhineland-Vosges, Rhineland-Maritime Alps and Po Valley Allied Offensive Campaigns. He gallantly contributed to the liberation of eastern France to include the towns of Bruyeres and Belmont-Biffontaine. He was also involved in the epic rescue of the Lost Battalion (Texas) in the Vosges Mountains. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Junko and is survived by daughter Sharon (James) Updike, sons: Clendon Nakasone, Scot Nakasone, Derek (Lea) Nakasone, and Lance Nakasone, grandchildren: Kathryn Updike, Kristyn Oki, Justin Nakasone, Lauryn Nakasone, Leah Nakasone, Scot Jr Nakasone, Tasia Nakasone, Noah Nakasone, and great-grandchildren: Leilani Updike and Vera Updike, Seth Ebesugawa, Dayton Oki, Carissa Oki and Keenan Oki.
